- Location: India
A US court has convicted Pakistani national Asif Raza Merchant for allegedly plotting to assassinate former President Donald Trump and other American leaders. Investigators say the plan had links to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and was reportedly meant as revenge for the 2020 killing of Qasem Soleimani. Authorities revealed Merchant contacted individuals he believed were hired killers, who were actually undercover agents. He was arrested in July 2024 before leaving the country and could now face life imprisonment.
