EC Suspends 7 Bengal Officers
- Location: India
The Election Commission of India has suspended seven West Bengal government officials for serious irregularities during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. The poll body has directed disciplinary action, citing negligence, misuse of authority and procedural violations. The move comes amid political pushback, with the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress challenging the SIR process in the Supreme Court. The EC says the action underlines its commitment to transparency and fairness in elections.
